"What a wonderful experience making this record. To take these great old hymns with the lyrical depth and the legacy of inspiration was truly an honor...it was like working with old friends. Speaking of working with old friends, I want to thank Amy especially for allowing me to be in the trenches with her so many times over the last 25 years; it was a joy as always...the laughter and the tears were sweet. Thanks to my new friend, Vince, for your role in bringing fresh perspective to these old standards. You are a consummate musician and I am glad to call you a friend. Thanks to all of the musicians for breathing new life into these gems of antiquity. Thanks to Steve, Hank and Traci for being willing to do something we have never done before - a record from inception to final mastering in 29 days! I hope all who listen are touched by this rich heritage that great men and women of faith have passed down to us."

"To be asked to contribute to this record was a humbling spiritual gift. I received so much more than I gave. To my old musical friends, thanks for always inspiring me. And to my new friends, Brown, Steve, Hank and Traci, the future looks pretty sweet not to mention the tortilla soup yet to be enjoyed. And lastly to my precious bride, Amy, thank you for your faith. I saw God in every note you sang, every smile you smiled and in every tear you shed making this record. You are rare and your faith in me gives me peace. I love you so.
Vince
SPECIAL ?THANKS
I cannot remember a time when I was so profoundly affected by the making of a record. These songs are so much a part of my childhood that they inhabit a layer of muscle memory that goes beyond words. As I was singing The Old Rugged Cross, I thoughr I could smell my great grandmother's powdery, perfumed, paper thin skin... and the sensory memory brought me to tears... Her alto voice singing "How Great Thou Art" beside my 4 year old self is my earliest sonic memory.
I'd like to thank Michael Blanton for his idea to commemorate twenty five years of recording by celebrating my roots.
I'd like to celebrate the reunion of my beloved friends and managers: Michael Blanton, Dan Harrell, Jennifer Cooke and Chaz Corzine.
It is in the context of family and friends that each of us lives out our faith, and so I'd like to mention a few by name, and the rest in my heart, as a way of saying Thank you, it's been an amazing joumey....and the best is yet to come: My Mom and Dad...Gloria and Burton Grant, My sisters and their families: Kathy and Dan, Mimi and Jerry, Carol and Jack, Logan, Grant, Burton, Grace, Caroline and Brian, Mimi, Katie, Michael, Elizabeth, Claire, Sally Anne, and Jacksoo. My children: Matt, Millie, Sarah and Corrina...and my inherited daughter Jenny. My cousin Glenda. My new family: Jerene, Gina and Richard, and Andy. My friends and coworkers: Beverly Darnall, Deanna Hemby, Phyllis Mayfield, Mike and LeighAnn Jones, John Huie, Susan Browne, Dawn Mosely, Traci and Steve Bishir, Hank Nirider, Richard Curtis, Lori Loving, Ken Kraus, and Keith Thomas.
I'd like to thank Ronn Huff for two decades of inspired arrangements.
I'd like to thank my producers separately. Brown Bannister, thank you for being a part of my musical expression from the beginning. I counted on our shared heritage to communicate these songs that have so profoundly shaped our lives. Vince, thank you for sharing your God-given gifts with me to help breathe new life into these songs that have shaped me. I love you and I'm glad we got to share this.
I'd like to dedicate this album to my parents, Burton and Gloria Grant...who provided me with such a rich heritage....and to my great grandmother, Lillie Armstrong Burton, "GreatMimi" (1886-1981) who loved these hymns dearly.
