Stevie Nicks / Janis Joplin Personally Owned Beads (Lot 1):
$4250.00

Up for sale is a portion of the now famous “Janis Beads” once owned by Janis herself and later by Rock Goddess Stevie Nicks. These beads were purchased at an sale house for Stevie by her one time business manager Judy Wong, sometime before 1994. One of the photos is an excerpt I just found from an interview where Stevie mentions the beads.

My connection: in the early 90’s I became friends with Stevie through my association with Bret Michaels. I had a small business in which I designed and crafted beaded jewelry. I made a lot of jewelry for Stevie and other celebrities and the Janis beads were presented to me (in 1994) by Stevie in a small ziplock bag. The beads were polished garnets strung on thin reddish thread and the necklace was broken in a couple of places. Stevie wanted a necklace done in my style of wire wrap. I designed and put together an 18” necklace and took them to Stevie. I tried to return the remaining beads but as I would never take money from Stevie, she rewarded me with the remaining beads. I fashioned two additional necklaces from those, one (Lot 1) is identical to Stevie’s and the other (Lot 2) was made using the smaller round filler beads and 4 large silver beads I purchased from Fred Segals. The beads may appear black in the photos but they are garnets and have a rich, translucent, raspberry color.

Lot 1 is presented here. It’s an 18” necklace fashioned from the larger, faceted, and polished beads (total bead count is 29) as well as some of the smaller round beads. It’s constructed using sterling silver wire and closes with a dolphin shaped clasp (just like Stevie’s). I will provide a signed letter of provenance from me and one of Stevie’s former employees has agreed to sign the letter as well verifying the authenticity of these beads.

On a personal note, I’m not sure how I feel about selling these. These beads are the Holy Grail to any collector of music memorabilia. There was only one set of these beads and it has been divided into 3 necklaces. One owned by Stevie and the other two owned by me and now presented in two separate listings here on . These beads cannot be duplicated and have been in my safe for over 20 years.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be absolutely NO RETURNS on this item as it is high-end memorabilia. I will ship it to you fully insured either priority or special handling at no additional cost to you. You WILL have to sign for them.

See Lot 2 if you wish to view the other necklace.
