ALL BY HAND ! I would guess, by the wide variety of fabrics, that this was made by someone who lived near one of the textile mills that dotted this area in the 1930\'s. At close of each day, it was customary for the mill foreman to set barrels of fabric scraps outside for the ladies to gather and use in their quilts or whatever they were making. Quilt came from Upstate South Carolina, near the North Carolina border. I would guess the maker had a personality that went with her choice of fabrics ! (We learn to tell a lot about the maker by looking at her quilts). I love the backing also, which is a subdued marigold color with small white and light pink circles. Quilt measures 78\" x 62\", could be used on twin or double bed, depending on how you turned it. Or smashing hung. Not thick, not lumpy, just perfect weight. Quilt has a marvelous laid-back happy feel and look, with lots of bright colors (just the right amount, not too many !) and we thank you for looking at another fine piece of folk art from the American South. I feel sure most of you know the Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern is the most popular pattern world-wide, followed by Grandma\'s Flower Garden. After that we get into the log cabin family and the star family and oh my goodness, there are so many beautiful quilts in the world !
