This Japanese photo of two men is dated on the inside of its folio cover (not shown), as having been taken on April 28, Showa 2 (1927), and was shot by S. Shima photo studio of Gora Park, Hakone, in Kanagawa Prefecture. The inscription also says that they are at Hakone, and gives their names. The steam behind them surely comes from one of the volcanic vents that are around Hakone.This image is in basically good condition. There are no tears or scratches, but there are a few smudges and a few age-spots. The detail is good but the focus softens a little under magnification. The tones in the close-up sample scan are fairly close to those of the actual image.
The matting has some smudges, much age-spotting, and wear at the edges and corners. The folio cover and tissue have several smudges, some age-spotting, and wear with a little damage at the edges and corners.
