Fleetwood Mac Falls Apart Again

The spectacularly successful Fleetwood Mac reunion, spawning a hit album and one of the strongest-selling concert tours of the year, has ground to an abrupt halt, according to sources close to the band. Daily Variety reports that while the rest of the band had made overtures toward continuing the tour after a holiday break, keyboardist / vocalist Christine McVie has opted out of rejoining the group for continued touring, citing exhaustion from the grueling schedule.

The band's tour, supporting the hit album The Dance, has reportedly grossed over $36 million over 44 nights in 40 cities. Promoters in Europe and the U.S. had been in the process of plotting out 1998 dates when the decision was made to abort those plans. Ticket prices in many markets raised eyebrows, topping out at $125, though the band's audience, much like that of the Eagles in 1994, hardly flinched after seeing how well the band delivered in its VH-1 concert special preceding the tour. The band reportedly has no plans to record new material, though they may perform together again at special events.<
