The Province- Stevie's Fleetwood knack
by Peter Clough
IT WAS FISHY all right.
I can now tell you the real reason behind Fleetwood Mac's last-minute cancellation of their GM Place show last Sunday -- and it had nothing to do with "bronchitis."
If there was anything wrong with Lindsey Buckingham's throat it was probably from all that yelling.
The fact is that the band had a huge blow-up after Saturday night's show in Tacoma, Wash. At the centre of the fight: Stevie Nicks, long known as the emotional wingnut in the group (she once had a $20,000 video scrapped because it made her arms look fat.)
With the crew setting up stage in Vancouver and the band members going at it hammer-and-tong back in Tacoma, I'm told that management types tried frantically all Sunday afternoon to get things sorted out.
"She just said there was no way she was going onstage that night," says my source. "They were on the phone from about 3:30 trying to talk her out of it."
So much for "burying the hatchet" -- which seemed to be the theme at the start of the celebrated reunion tour.
Fleetwood Mac owes their fans in B.C. -- some of whom travelled from as far as Prince George -- an apology. It's not too late to add a Vancouver date to the end of the tour.
Come back and face the music!
Thanks to Tammi for the submission.
