Sheryl Crow, presenting an
award to Stevie Nicks:
"It's often been said that we should never meet our heroes for fear of
disappointment. I am proud to say I have met my hero and she's more
wonderful than I could ever have imagined. I had the great opportunity
of working with Stevie in the studio, and singing with her on stage. And every time she opens her mouth and I hear her voice I am reminded of
what it was that I wanted to be when I grew up. Whether with Fleetwood
Mac or as a massively popular solo artist, her magic has always started
with her incredible distinctive songs: from "Rhiannon" and "Dreams," to
"Gypsy" and "Edge of Seventeen," to "Stand Back" and her latest work . . . these songs reflect her openness as a human being, as well as her
power as a storyteller. She's an inspiration, a hero, a
friend, an open beautiful person ~ and for all those reasons and more,
it's my privilege to acknowledge Miss Stephanie Nicks for her artistic
achievement as a storyteller and songwriter. Stevie, on behalf of
everyone your songs touch, we love you!"
Stevie Nicks' Acceptance Speech:
"This award is for song writing. I wanted to say a little bit to you
very quickly about song writing: In 1975 when I first joined Fleetwood
Mac I really thought, "How am I going to plan this out . . . I'm going
to plan it." And I did--I planned it. And I decided to try to make
little worlds for you guys to come with me into for a little while. And
I think that is what I love the most about my writing. So I thank you
all for coming into that little world with me--even if it's just for a
minute of your time, and being with me, because that's what I do! I
love you . . . and thank you so much."
