The nominees for 1997 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in. Nominated for the honor for the first time are Billy Joel, Del Shannon, Santana, Dusty Springfield, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Back on the ballot as repeat nominees are Solomon Burke, Lloyd Price, the Stooges, Gene Vincent, Joe Tex, the Moonglows, the Mamas & the Papas, and Gene Pitney. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will announce the date and location of the induction ceremony, now in its 13th year, in October.
