This is a great album, filled with all the best elements of 40's style swing and blues but
stripped down to more suitable modern instrumentation, no horns and few fiddles, just
mainly good old guitars, keyboards and drums with brushes etc. Some of the more
uptempo numbers like the opener "Rock a bye boogie" & "Hot dog" have a "Boogie
woogie bugle boy" feeling while ballads like "Don't know if I'm comin' or goin'" include
a "Blue moon" type of mood. The Rick Vito penned "Devil love" has a slight bossa nova
arrangement and you could picture Billy Burnette doing the almost rockabilly closer
"Country boy". My favorite for now is the title track which is probably the most modern
sounding but still strangely fits into the mix, with moaning keyboards dripping with moody
atmospherics, you can't go wrong with this one. Flores at times reminds me of Maria
Muldaur on her mellower moments from "Open your eyes" but this is not a bad thing at
all. One thing is for sure, this will be hard to measure up to as one of the best releases of
the year.
