Perfect for the period
Reviewer: Anonymous, Salesman November 07, 2004 Loved the backing vocals and the tight rythms and strings
A must for anyone who likes Bob Welch
Reviewer: sryan17877@aol.com, Therapist September 08, 2003 I followed Bob welch from when he was in Fleetwood Mac and thought they had a great sound then. Not commercial but very cool. I picked up the 2nd Paris album and thought this isn't too bad but not a lot of people are going to buy it. It was a little pretentious, although I did like "1 in 10" and "Blue Robin". French Kiss was just a classic album and it still sounds good today. I just bought the CD again last week. Great songs, a lot of energy and of course one of the great love songs in rock, Sentimental Lady.
POP-ROCK SO GOOD YOU CAN'T HELP BUT LIKE IT!
Reviewer: Edward Easterling (baronstrait@yahoo.com), Poet June 03, 2003 I first heard Ebony Eyes on the radio in 1978 when I was 13.That was it!I couldn't wait to buy French Kiss and listen to it.I was in for another pleasant surprise when I heard Sentimental Lady, the first cut on side 1.I'd heard that song for years but I never knew that was Bob Welch, too.Anyway,I honestly say to this day,I am hard pressed to find a better album by anyone, anywhere.I've listened to this album 100,000 times now,and I still love it.If I ever go to a desert island and I can only take 1 album with me,French Kiss by Bob Welch is it.I'm not kidding! The cover is sexy. The title is cool. This compilation of songs is surprisingly diverse.Although the theme of "losing your heart"seems to run through it,Mr. Welch explores other territory as well."Outskirts"-Bob has pulled a heist and he's leaving town-determined not to be caught."Danchiva"-Mr. Welch takes us on a brief spiritual retreat-"pretend that you're a bubble on a wave"!Between these episodes of adventure,Bob Welch is singing songs of love to his woman."Hot Love-Cold World"reminds us that love has to survive tumultuos times. In the end, love wins-"You Made Me Lose My Heart".All-in-all,Bob Welch ,thru this album French Kiss, has earned my highest admiration and praise. It is living proof, even at this point in time, that good style never goes out of style.Thank you Bob,for 1 GREAT album!God Bless You.

Bob keeps the hits comin'
Reviewer: John Fitzgerald, Human resources staff database assistant March 24, 2001 Bob's follow up to "French kiss" has basically the same production feel but is a little
lighter on the strings and a little heavier on the guitars. It's surprising that Welch would
choose to do some covers when he's been so prolific (at this time) such as the fab four's "I
saw her standing there" & The Fleetwood's "Come softly to me" although it does have
some good guest vocal parts from Christine Mcvie as does "Don't wait too long" which
many of you will know is an old song as well because it has virtually the same lyrics to the
discarded track from "Mystery to me" entitled "Good things come to those who wait".
"Devil wind" is a scary minor chord number with eerily haunting guest vocals from Stevie
Nicks and "Precious love" the hit single, is a good companion piece to "Ebony eyes" from
"French kiss". Guest drummer Mick Fleetwood is on "The ghost of flight 401". This
sounds closest to Bob's recording while with the Mac (a la "Bermuda triangle" from
"Heroes are hard to find"). The rest is a good mix of ballads (notably "Oh Jenny" &
"Church") and rockers such as the opening title track and "Little star" which starts with a
nasty growl but the chorus is unusually almost pop like. Not everything is first rate but the
amount of songs present for recommendation is plentiful.
