Lindsey Buckingham opened his headlining show Saturday at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard with three solo, acoustic performances.

"Not Too Late," from his latest album, "Under the Skin," featured some fabulous finger-picking guitar work and a rich vocal crescendo in the chorus, but it failed to capture the attention of the loosely packed crowd. A stripped-down version of his 1981 solo hit, "Trouble," faced a similar fate.

As he jumped into his Fleetwood Mac work, "Never Going Back Again" drew a series of hoots and whistles. An upbeat take of "Second Hand News" performed with three backing musicians finally got the audience bopping along.

But as Buckingham returned to his new solo acoustic work, it was clear that this intimate performance would have been a better fit in a smaller theater setting.
