Pack Up The Plantation: Live (4/5.04/5.04/5.04/5.04/5.0)
Absolutely Class - Great Album
Review written by D.S. Lydiard, October 16th, 2004

This live album from Tom and the guys is amazing. This actually was the first Tom Petty album I bought after watching Behind The Music and I have to say it is just fantastic. Every track is great and before you say well he's a Petty fan you have to remember that I had only heard snippets of these songs and hadn't heard of this guy before. However now I'm a total Heartbreakers nut O). The only dissapointment with this though is Breakdown, I mean dont get me wrong it is a great track but this version is, in my opinion anyway, too long, plus the crowd sings the first verse and chorus which is fine but it doesn't really float my boat. Mike is on great form here, his solos to American Girl and Refugee are class and It Ain't Nothing to Me co-written by Eurythmics' Dave Stewart also shows Mike playing brilliantly. Also at one point I could almost see Benmont playing, yeah it sounds weird but I got this image of Benmont just rocking out. Tom's vocals are superb on this album, showing that he is a great singer in a live situation. Now we come to the important part, Stevie Nicks. In typical Stevie style she manages to wrap her voice around Pettys with breathtaking ease and shows off her fantastic ability to sing, but we already knew that right. Stevie appears on Needle and Pins and Insider and does a brilliant job on both. I would recommend Pack Up The Plantation to anyone cos it is a great live album showing the world that real bands with real talent and real instruments do exist and can really kick ass. Britney and the rest aren't fit to breathe the same air as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers or Fleetwood Mac for that matter. This album is amazing as I've already said, I can't say enough about it. My mate has listened to a few tracks and he likes it and he hates this type of music, so there is hope after all. Every track is brilliant except I am dissapointed with Breakdown except the parts that appear on the original recording, after that it tends to drag on. Everyone must buy this album. Its GREAT !!!!!!!!
