CD Reissue Notes:

Among rock & roll's most electrifying live attractions, Fleetwood Mac regularly packs stadiums around the world with concert performances that capture all the rich harmonies, scintillating instrumental interplay and exuberant spirit that make up the band's extraordinary and enduring appeal. And Fleetwood Mac Live preserves the excitement of Fleetwood Mac on stage with a generous helping of 18 in-concert cuts, including such Fleetwood Mac classics as "Sara," "Rhiannon," "Go Your Own Way" and "Don't Stop."

It was in 1977, with the release of Rumours, that Fleetwood Mac catapulted into superstardom with one of the best selling rock albums of all time. But with roots in the British blues scene, the group's musical history stretches back to the late '60s with a string of acclaimed LP's that blended blues, rock and a variety of more eclectic styles into a highly accessible whole. Original members, Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass) and Christine McVie (vocals), joined forces with Americans Lindsey Buckingham (guitar, vocals) and Stevie Nicks (vocals) to form the quintet that took the musical world by storm with Rumours.

In 1979, Fleetwood Mac again flexed its creative muscle with Tusk, a deluxe and diverse package that took the band down all manner of intriguing musical avenues. The LP's release was accompanied by a major world tour that saw the band play more than a hundred dates on four continents for over nine whirlwind months. The music of Fleetwood Mac Live comprises high points of the group's 1979/1980 Tusk Tour.

Produced by Richard Dashut, Ken Caillat and the band, Fleetwood Mac Live contains cuts from such far flung tour stops as Tokyo, Paris, London and Cleveland. Three standout selections, "Fireflies," "One More Night" and "The Farmer's Daughter" (written for the band by Beach Boy Brian Wilson) were recorded live at the Santa Monica Auditorium for an audience of friends and road crew, while live renditions of the smash hits "Dreams" and "Don't Stop" were captured at a sound check prior to the group's Palata de Sport appearance in Paris.

why this???
Review written by Anonymous, November 4th, 2010

i saw fleetwood mac perform on the tusk tour in germany and of course they were the best as always.
i could not wait for the release of this live album and i have to admit i was shocked. how can a live band as good as this do a live album like this? each song from another concert, the choice of songs was strange as well. neither chain nor oh daddy or you make loving fun? songbird?
anyway it is a good album nevertheless. why warners do not remaster this old stuff is a real big MYSTERY TO ME!!!

Sound quality variable, live versions not up to snuff...
Review written by Jon the Moonspinner, February 17th, 2010

Released on the heels of the killer "Tusk" tour which took them around the globe, Fleetwood Mac had every right to be exhausted. Still, they surprise us with a handful of very good new tracks ("The Farmer's Daughter", especially, and "Fireflies") and some fun oldies (the Buckingham-Nicks dust-kicker "Don't Let Me Down Again"). "Never Going Back Again", recorded at the Tucson, AZ show I attended in August 1980, is a personal favorite, but too many songs here are not recorded in a proper setting. Why, for instance, was "Dreams" recorded at a sound check when something much more intimate (like "Sara") should have been given this privilege? "Not That Funny" went too long in concert and, inexplicably, is reproduced here in all its lumbering non-glory. Buckingham tried turning several of the Mac events into showcases for his guitar wizardry. I don't know why the others didn't restrain him. A frizzy-haired Nicks and both McVies are charming, Fleetwood pumps heavily on his drum kit like a man of desperation, but Buckingham is too overbearing here. BEST: Monday Morning, Oh Well, Over & Over, Never Going back Again, Fireflies, Don't let me Down Again, One More Night, The Farmer's Daughter.

Stevie is Flawless live

Contrary to the (CD edition of the) album's liner notes, "The Farmer's Daughter" was NOT "written for the band by Brian Wilson". The song was recorded originally by The Beach Boys for their 1963 album "Surfin' U.S.A.". Perhaps the "thank you" was for giving the band the rights to perform/record it.

Fleetwood Mac's 10 month, four continent tour that began in Oct. 1979 and ended in September 1980 is documented in this two-recorded live set. Recorded in various locales, the LP spans some of the best of the group's material, all delivered in crisp fashion. Much of the material deviates from their studio counterparts in that there is spontaneous interaction among members. While such Mac standards as "Rhiannon," "Go Your Own Way," "Over My Head" and "Don't Stop" are included, there are also less obvious cuts selected such as "Fireflies" and Brian Wilson's "The Farmer's Daughter." The sound quality is extraordinary and the packaging exceptional making it a valid collection by one of the world's most popular groups. Best cuts:"Go Your Own Way," "The Farmer's Daughter," "Sara," "Monday Morning," "Landslide," "One More Night." (Billboard Magazine, 12/20/80)
