Blues era in a nutshell
Review written by John Sposato (sposato@inmail24.com), October 29th, 2011

I picked this up at a library sale for pennies. It is a budget compilation of the Peter Green era. Five tracks are covers of blues legends such as Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson. The rest are taken from the first two studio albums and earlier compilations and singles released by Mike Vernons Blue Horizon Records through CBS. "Black Magic Woman" Santana would make their own not long after. "HellHound on My Trail" may be the oldest track written here. The UK #1 "Albatross" is also here as fans there expected. This collection sums up the early period for those unfamiliar with it, especially in the States where the old guard never quite caught on. You don't have to like the blues to enjoy this album.

A quality 'best of'.
Review written by becca, October 24th, 2004

This collection gives the more casual Mac fan a very good selection of the best tracks from the group's four pre Then Play On albums. There are three essential Danny Kirwan tracks from the English Rose album and the best known Green and Spencer tracks.
